A Writing Place

Welcome!

This is a site created for students and faculty at Missouri State University. If that description fits you and you're interested, here's what to do. Instructors should contact Dr. Lanette Cadle to get signed up for the beta-test semester and students will be registered by their instructor. Once you're registered, here are some options:

This is an informal learning environment where students, instructors, classes, and working groups can share content. Students should start with the area for their individual course, found through the My Work tab. More general content is available as well, such as useful links and interest groups. Instructors can set up their courses here and have access to the Instructors Group for the specific courses they are teaching--100,110, 210, or 310.

Some of the functionality within this site includes the following:

  • a personal workspace;
  • a group workspace;
  • the ability for site members to create informal working groups;
  • the ability to create formal class spaces;
  • podcasting;
  • wiki functionality;
  • personal and class blogs;
  • rss feeds for the entire site, individual courses, individual terms, and individual users;
  • personal image galleries;
  • personal file repositories;
  • the ability to create private, invitation-only groups;
  • social bookmarking, with searching within bookmark descriptions;
  • spam protection;
  • assignment calendars by course;
  • event calendars for site-wide events;
  • configurable user profiles with searchable text descriptions;
  • the ability to create lists of "friends" among site members;
  • the ability to find the missing sock in the dryer.

Well, maybe not the last one, but the goal of this site is to create a flexible framework that allows for users to set up a social learning environment or a more traditional learning environment depending on the needs of the instructors or students within the site. With this current framework, both approaches are supported.
